Something else neat at Powder Mountain |
Lead | |
|
Ever heard of snowkiting? Powder Mountain has a large area reserved for it. You'll see them off to the right as you go up the Sunrise poma. Like the
guys on the wakeboards with the parasails, only on snow. Skis and boards both, and I think I've seen a mono once. Stop in at the yurt in the parking lot
to find out about lessons/demos. Come back March 13-15 for the 2nd Annual SuperFly Open.

Cat Skiing | ||

I understand there is also powder skiing in the back bowl utilizing a $15 snow cat shuttle to the top of the bowl. Sounds like a must do first thing Saturday
morning. Catch the first bus.

Powder Country | ||
|
There's also Powder Country, ungroomed terrain down the back side of Hidden Lake to the road, where a shuttle bus picks up every 20 or 30 minutes to take
you back to either Sundown or the Main Lodge. No charge except the wait for the bus. Hardest part is if you get down to the road early, narrow track
alongside the road down to the shuttle turnaround is a bit tricky in spots.

Transportation to PowMow Concerns
|
As a newbie to Powder Mountain, are the buses always running from Eden from 8 am (assuming that is the first bus) on a 20 minute cycle?
It appears that if you have a two wheel drive car, it is to your advantage to take the bus or am I incorrect? Would it be advisable to get to the bus pickup early to ensure a place (especially Saturday and Sunday) on the bus? Can one ski back to Eden if need be (silly question but who knows)? It is the transportation on a snowy day that has me a bit concerned. Thanks Pukat (what's the dog's name). Peter

I will be coming from the Ogden area daily and can swing by Snowberry Inn and the Mono Pad on the way to PowMow and Snowbasin. Let me know if you need a ride,
we are expecting a bunch of small impulse storms with the possibility of snow pretty much each day/night. I can fit four passengers comfortably in my truck and
one more in a pinch.

Powder Mountain Shuttle
|
As per Powder Mountain shuttle:
There is a bus at 8 am and at 9 am. We try to depart on time with a 5 minute leeway.
There are 3-4 buses running and a van daily.

Dog's name is Beauty; mini long-hair dachshund...
We can probably get you back down to Snowberry without too much trouble. It's too far to walk from the grocery store shuttle stop to Snowberry, so someone will run you, no prob. |

Talking with Snowbasin, there shouldn't be a problem getting there and with Powder Mountain, I'll drive to the bus pick up at 7:30 both mornings.
The problem with the New Beetle is the low clearance (4"). I haven't had any problems here in Edmonton. I've snows all away around. Thank you.
